The speakers of the Human Factors Conference

Is there a better reason for exchanging knowledge than trying to achieve a common goal?

The aim of the conference is to combine a variety of perspectives and insights to advance the long-term development of human factors training for all safety-sensitive industries and companies.

For this reason, we have paid special attention to the quality of the contributions. The agenda will look like this: The first day of the Human Factors Conference will be dominated by five high-caliber expert lectures followed by time for discussion and sharing experiences. Day 2 will be dominated by five great speakers and more practical insights and discussions. All participants will also enjoy a networking dinner and the opportunity to engage with all the speakers and others in professional and personal discussions.

Prof. Dr. Peter Pawlowsky is university professor of personnel management and leadership studies at Chemnitz University of Technology and director of the Research Institute for Organizational Competence and Strategy (FOKUS). He has played an active role in the New Club of Paris developing concepts for intellectual capital management (ICM) and has conducted large studies on the development of KM Knowledge Management ( KM) and ICM in the German economy.

Peter Pawlowsky has an extensive record of consulting activities, involving companies and public organizations. His experience of organizational practice has helped him to teach students, professionals and managers, and to develop new approaches to people management and organizational learning. He has developed several courses and program curriculums and taught, inter alia, at the Free University Berlin, University of St. Gallen, Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz, AutoUni Volkswagen. Peter Pawlowsky has written more than 160 scientific and professional publications, including several books, and he was active in dozens of affiliations and assignments as liaison professor for the Foundation of the German Economy Foundation (Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft e. V.).

Dr. Stein wrote the newly released book, The EQ Leader and co-authored the international best-seller The EQ Edge: Emotional Intelligence and Your Success and is the author of Emotional Intelligence for Dummies. He has also written Make Your Workplace Great: The 7 Keys to an Emotionally Intelligent Organization and co-authored The Student EQ Edge: Emotional Intelligence and Your Academic and Personal Success.  

As one of the first psychologists to study emotional intelligence, Dr. Stein is passionate about finding ways to employ EI skills to every part of life, including the workplace, leadership, politics, sports, entertainment, and more. Cengiz Turkoglu is a Senior Lecturer & Course Director MSc Airworthiness, Cranfield University. Cengiz started his career as an aircraft maintenance engineer and worked in different airlines and maintenance organisations both in Turkey and in the UK. He held aircraft maintenance licenses from Turkish, US and UK Authorities. He then worked as a Quality Engineer for SR Technics UK Ltd (Formerly FLS Aerospace UK Ltd) between 2000 and 2005. He subsequently held the ‘Continuing Airworthiness Post Holder’ position for Flightline, a UK charter airline. In 2008, Cengiz joined City University London as a Senior Lecturer and Wake QA as a part time IOSA auditor. Since then he had the opportunity to visit over twenty different airlines in Asia, Middle East, Africa and Europe and audited their Quality & Safety Management Systems. In September 2015, Cengiz joined the ‘Cranfield Safety and Accident Investigation Centre’ and became the Course Director MSc Airworthiness at the beginning of 2017. He has been a member of the UK Flight Safety Committee since 2010 and joined the ‘Executive Board’ as the Vice Chairman in 2015. He chaired the Technical Committee of the International Federation of Airworthiness since 2011 and recently became the Technical Director.

Jan Hagen is an associate professor at ESMT European School of Management and Technology in Berlin. Jan’s research and teaching focus is on leadership. He is particularly interested to understand how teams and organizations deal with errors. Apart from articles in academic journals he published the book Confronting Mistakes – Lessons from the Aviation Industry when Dealing with Error (Palgrave Macmillan) in 2013. In Spring 2018 his new book How could this happen – Why organizations need an error management will be published. His research received wide international media coverage.

Jan directs the ESMT open enrollment program Leadership under Pressure and is the host of the bienniel ESMT Error Management Conference.

Stefan Kleinheyer is colonel and wing commander of the Tactical Fighter Wing 31 "Boelcke" in Nörvenich (near Cologne) and has more than 2500 hours in Fighter Aircraft F-4F, F-16C (USAF) and Eurofighter. Mr. Kleinheyer is an instructor pilot and operational test & evaluation pilot with over 25 years of experience. He is a general staff officer with experience in leadership, operations, intelligence and as a spokesperson for the German Ministry of Defense.

Amy D. Grubb is the senior Industrial/Organizational Psychologist at the FBI. In her eighteen years with the FBI, she has been responsible for the implementation of a number of change initiatives, from serving as a leader on the post-9/11 enterprise-wide transformation of the FBI to a balanced national security and law enforcement mission (the Strategic Execution Team) to implementing HR systems and processes at all levels. A 2010 FBI Director’s Award for Excellence recipient for creating the organizational development function at the FBI, she instituted the first corporate-wide FBI Annual Employee Survey and extensively integrated it with organizational processes and operational programs. She advises C-suite and executive leaders on risk from the human capital perspective regarding organizational performance, policy decisions, and change initiatives, and serves as executive coach to a number of leaders. Amy D. Grubb earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of Houston, earning her bachelor’s degree from Villanova University.

Paolo Ferri studied theoretical physics at the University of Pavia (Italy). He spent his entire professional career at the European Space Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany, working initially as scientist, then moving to mission operations for various scientific space missions. Since 2013 he is Head of the Mission Operations Department, responsible for the operations of all unmanned space missions of the European Space Agency.
